Common questions

Before you enquire

How long does an ADHD assessment take?+

Typically 2 to 3 clinical sessions, plus questionnaires and rating scales completed beforehand. The written report is generally ready within 2 to 4 weeks after the assessment is complete and required information has been received.

Can an ADHD assessment be completed by telehealth or in Blacktown?+

Yes. Depending on suitability and availability, the assessment may be completed by secure telehealth or at the Blacktown office. Andrew confirms the appropriate format before booking.

Can a psychologist prescribe ADHD medication?+

No. Psychologists do not prescribe. The assessment report can be shared with a GP or psychiatrist for their independent clinical decisions and may provide evidence for NDIS, work or study requests.

Do you provide reports for legal matters?+

No. Wiser Minds does not provide medico-legal assessments or reports for court, insurance disputes, or other legal proceedings. Assessment reports are prepared for clinical, educational, workplace, and NDIS purposes.

What if it turns out not to be ADHD?+

The assessment documents the available evidence, explains whether ADHD criteria are met, and identifies other factors that may need consideration. Recommendations follow the findings and limitations.

Will the report guarantee NDIS funding or other supports?+

No. The report documents what the assessment found, including a diagnosis where criteria are met and functional impact on daily life. Decisions about access, funding and adjustments rest with the relevant organisations. The report remains transparent about its evidence and limitations.

Do you offer after hours or Saturday appointments?

After hours (weekdays from 5pm) and Saturday appointments are available for private and Medicare therapy at the Blacktown office or by telehealth, with a higher gap fee than standard hours. If you need an assessment appointment outside standard weekday hours, mention it when you enquire and Andrew will let you know what is possible.
